Sound Masking
General
-
What is the Confidante warranty?
Confidante is warranted for five years.
-
What is speech privacy?
According to ISO, ANSI and ASTM standards, the Department of Commerce National Telecom and Information Administration, and WEDI-SNIP, “speech privacy” is conversation that is not intelligible to casual listeners. It is defined by the Articulation Index (AI) and can be measured with portable instruments. AI measures the ratio of speech (“signal”) to background sound (“noise”). Standards offer an objective, inexpensive basis for addressing speech privacy issues raised by privacy laws.
-
What is in the Confidante kit and what do I need?
Confidante speakers or “Emitters” are installed at about 1 for every 100 square feet of covered area. You don’t need to put them in conference rooms, kitchen and dining area or storage rooms. They only go where privacy is needed.
Kits contain everything needed (All components are plug and play): instructions and owners’ manual (English), control module (8”x8”x2”), 12 volt AC power supply (sits existing outlets), wireless remote control (5”x2”x.25”), ultra-wide dispersion transducers (Sets of 4 – each speaker is 3.5” in diameter x 3”H) with SlipLok feature, RJ45 plug and play ports, pre-cut 16 ft. CAT5 cables with R45 modular connectors, hole-saw (to cut ceiling mounting holes). Options (paging module or brackets for non-tile ceilings) are available. Anyone can do it.
-
What does it sound like?
Confidante’s sound quality is comfortable, uniform and unobtrusive. Its proprietary hardware and ultra-wide dispersion transducers allow Confidante to deliver the 4-channel signal which provides proven speech privacy at surprisingly low volume – 3 to 6 dBA lower than other systems.
-
What does Confidante do?
Confidante is a patented, clearly superior, low-voltage sound system that is ceiling-mounted, uniquely easy to install and operate, and covers any area from 100 sq. ft. to millions of sq. ft. Its unique privacy signal is a barely audible, pleasant sound that “blocks” nearby conversation to provide distraction-free work environments and certifiable privacy as required by federal, state and international privacy laws.
-
Is Confidante “white noise,” “pink noise,” or “sound masking”?
No. “White noise” and “pink noise” are engineering technical terms defined by ANSI standards that sound very uncomfortable. They are both unsuitable for speech privacy. “Sound masking” refers to plenum-based sound systems that are mounted inside the ceiling plenum and produce muffled, indistinct, non-uniform sound. They are complex and difficult for even professionals to tune. They are also expensive. They seldom deliver effective, comfortable privacy.
